Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden: tricks and tips

As I ventured into the perilous New England of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, I picked up some tricks and tips that I thought were quite important, which will ensure your survival against the hordes of hellish spectres you will face. In addition to these, there are other suggestions – not related to combat – that are good to know before starting the work.

1) The importance of choices

During the excellent prologue, Antea will lose her life but will remain at Red’s side as a ghost throughout the campaign. After reuniting with your better half, you must make a crucial decision that will affect the ending of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden: try to resurrect the protagonist or have her ascend forever.

Banishers Ghosts of New Eden Platinum Guide

Whichever path you decide to pursue, the main or optional Infestation cases (which I encourage you to complete, not just for the gold trophy “Cases Concluded” but also to unlock more advanced mechanics in Antea’s skill tree) will always end with a choice among three different options through which to interact with the protagonists-living and in spirit form-of the ongoing investigation:

  • Blame: the most painful route because by accusing a living NPC-not a spectre therefore-you will condemn him to death but his sacrifice will contribute to Antea’s resurrection
  • Ascend: the ghost haunting an inhabitant will leave our world forever-this choice has positive meaning-also contributing to Antea’s ascension
  • Banish: banish the ghost forever by consigning it to oblivion

2) Always explore every avenue

Before proceeding to the point indicated by the compass that shows you the location of your goal, always carefully explore alternative routes, small deviations from the main path: you will often find important resources to upgrade your equipment.

In addition, you may come across the Nests from which a large number of ghosts will emerge to be eliminated. In these situations, combat will prove quite tough, partly because of the high number of mobs on the screen and the presence of mini bosses at the end. However, if you win, all of your characters’ attributes will increase by one point.

3) Alternating between Antea and Red in battle.

Some spectres will be weak to Antea’s attacks while others will be weak to Red’s: in general, constantly alternating characters – especially taking advantage of the Banisher’s abilities – will be one of the keys to gaining the upper hand against these monsters who want to get in the way of our mission.

Banishers Ghosts of New Eden Tips

In this regard, here is an unlockable combo after a few hours of play that I found very useful: concatenate three quick attacks with Red to then change the character with the right timing – when the hand of the male protagonist lights up blue – so as to make the appear almost out of nowhere Antea which, catching the enemy off guard, can end the offensive sequence with an uppercut that will send most monsters to the ground.

4) Dodge or perfect parry?

In the game, enemies can count on a good number of attacks: some of these cannot be parried, so just dodge them; others, on the other hand, can be either avoided through a backward snap or somersault or blocked (with Red).

In the latter case keep in mind that the perfect parade in Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden can give you a significant advantage in combat because it will stun the specter by allowing you to pull off two to three shots in quick succession and then unleash the fury of Antea (see Step 3 of this guide).

Nonetheless, I would not overly focus on parrying especially if you have not yet mastered the timing of your opponents’ moveset strikes to perfection: often simply dodging or getting into a defensive position well in advance may prove to be the best choice.

5) Hold off on upgrading the equipment.

The last piece of advice I want to give you is not to upgrade the equipment of the two Epurators at every useful opportunity: in fact, as I wrote in the review of Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, there will be no shortage of bracelets, clothes or weapons that will improve the attributes of one or the other protagonist.

Therefore, wait until you figure out what your preferred fighting style is because you may be better off facing ghosts with Antea than with Red or vice versa. So, accumulate useful resources and make multiple upgrades to your armamentarium only when you have identified the best set-up for the pair of hunters.
