Playstation Plus Extra and Premium: the best fps and tps shooter games

The best FPS and TPS shooter games available on Playstation 5 and featured in the catalog for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers

After reviewing the best games by genre featured on Xbox Game Pass, it is now, finally, the turn of PlayStation 5 owners and PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers: in keeping with the tradition started just under a year ago, we begin the guides from FPS and TPS shooters. The shooters in the catalog are many – perhaps not at the levels of Game Pass but the number is still considerable – and therefore, I will try to help you in selecting those most worthy of a download.

Before proceeding with the list, which is not a ranking, I would like to emphasize that the names you are about to read are purely personal choices. Finally, I would like to mention those titles that should definitely be tried because they are excellent games, in which the shooting component is also present but which, for various reasons, I decided to exclude: Uncharted: The Legacy Collection, Control, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Prey.

Back 4 Blood

Choose your favorite class, with its relative strengths and weaknesses, find a playmate and dive into Back 4 Blood’s campaign: started the game, get ready to slaughter hordes upon hordes of inferocitic zombies that will try to rip you to shreds without feeling any mercy.

Back 4 Blood Playstation Plus

Back 4 Blood is a brutal first-person shooter in which the level of difficulty increases over the course of the adventure to reach its climax in the complex final boss fight. Of note: Back 4 Blood can be played in co-op for up to four players.

Doom 2016 & Doom Eternal

We have already talked about Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal in the list of the best games available for Playstation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers: the two chapters of the saga, a reboot of the historical FPS shooter created by id Software, are the starting point for any lover of the genre. After Doom there is everything else.

Doom Eternal

The ludic formula found by the studio with Doom 2016, and continued with Doom Eternal, is particularly effective because it combines tradition and innovation to offer players a fast-paced arena shooter, in which there are no pauses to catch their breath and full of high-adrenaline moments.

My Friend Pedro

My Friend Pedro, developed by DeadToast Entertainment and published by Devolver Digital, is a small 2D gem featured in the Playstation Plus Extra and Premium catalog, fun and extremely satisfying (a slight deviation from the classic FPS and TPS featured in this guide): there is, in fact, no shortage of style scores, tarantinian splatter And bullet time like Matrix.

My Friend Pedro

The impact of bullets on the bodies of enemies is as powerful as the gameplay that leaves free approach for the player to choose how to eliminate each mob on the screen. My Friend Pedro, finally, is lighthearted, comical, with jokes that take up many current issues ranging from the Internet to people’s social behaviors.

Along with the two chapters of Doom, Returnal, the TPS roguelike shooter developed by Housemarque and exclusive to Playstation 5, is one of the best games in the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalogs. A real time bomb in which the cycle of death and rebirth is a founding part of the work and the only way to discover the story of the protagonist, astronaut Selene Vassos.

Best Shooter Playstation Plus 1

Difficult boss fights, to be memorized one death after another, with the anxiety of not making it all the way through and having to start over from the beginning. A bullet hell with lots of on-screen special effects, Returnal is an addictive gameplay shooter that will never take your hands off Dual Sense again.

Metal: Hellsinger

A first-person shooter rhythm n’game with music by Serj Tankian of System of a Down? What devilry is this! But does it really exist? The answer is yes, and it is called Metal: Hellsinger, one of the newest games to land in the Playstation Plus Extra and Premium catalog.

Metal Hellsinger

Metal: Hellsinger is an FPS that makes the sound and audio compartment its workhorse (play it with headphones on): the more you are able to shoot in time to the music (easier to say than do, especially if you are out of tune, but you get better with time), the greater the playful satisfaction will be. In addition, every level overflows with ferocious demons, another plus point for the work developed by The Outsiders.

The Ascent

The Ascent, conceived by the Swedish software house Neon Giant, is a isometric twin stick shooter (second break, after My Friend Pedro, from pure FPSs and TPSs) with a cyberpunk setting, which can be tackled with up to four players on screen, from the adrenaline-fueled shootouts and set in a city, Veles, all to be discovered and full of assignments to be completed.

The Ascent

The RPG component, moreover, enriches a gameplay in which you shoot that is a pleasure: exploited the Gears of War cover system not only to defend yourselves but also to overlook and explode an almost infinite amount of bullets and thus say goodbye to all those enemies who want to make your skin. Waiting for you, once you get past the wave of bounty hunters, will be the inevitable end-of-mission boss fight.

Wolfenstein Saga

After Bethesda and id Software’s Doom Saga, it’s Wolfenstein’s turn (which we already delved into in the famous list we mentioned at the beginning of the article listing the best shooters available on Xbox Game Pass). In the Playstation Plus Extra and Premium catalog, find all the reboot chapters of the FPS series born in 1981: Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Old Blood, Young Blood and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus.

Wolfenstein Saga Playstation Plus

As William Blazkowicz, you will have to clean up every Nazi that comes your way: a more thoughtful shooting, however than its cousin Doom (and with a more pronounced narrative compartment) in which, in between gunfights, you can also resort to stealth to silently kill your enemies.

We close the list with a vintage arena shooter, old school, the kind that makes you feel, pad in hand, 1980s shooter vibes: Prodeus, created by Bounding Box Software and published by Humble Games, is described by its creators themselves, as “an old first-person shooter, reimagined with modern rendering techniques“.

And indeed, the trailer for Prodeus oozes ignorance from every pixel: a violent and particularly high-paced FPS in which your goal is to kill Prodeus, creator of the corrupt agent whose role you will play as well as the game world itself.
