Most anticipated video game releases in the last quarter of 2023
Now that everyone (or almost everyone) is back from summer vacation, we can start playing like crazy again. September marks the beginning of the last four months of 2023 and there are plenty of video games coming up, such as Lies of P, Alan Wake 2 and Spider-Man 2: today we try to compile our very personal list of the most anticipated ones complete with an expected release date (last second postponements permitting).
Starfield, available September 6th on Xbox, PC and at day one on Game Pass (here all September games coming to Xbox Game Pass) was just the first in a long line. Get comfortable and prepare your wallet: there are so many expenses to consider.
Lies of P – 19th September 2023
We are very few days away from the release of Lies of P (here is our trial run of the Lies of P demo), scheduled for September 19th, 2023. The soulslike developed by Neowiz and Round8 Studio will arrive on PC, consoles – including Playstation 4 and Xbox One – and on day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Beautiful looks beautiful: the combat system appears deep and well thought out while the boss fights as hostile as they are spectacular. I honestly have little doubt about the overall quality of a product that could easily turn out to be among the best of this 2023.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage – 5th October 2023
A return to basics. This is what Ubisoft promised us with its Assassin’s Creed Mirage: abandoning the open world that has characterized the last years of the saga in order to propose a less dispersive gameplay with a greater focus on the narrative,in line with the very first chapters of Assassin’s Creed.

Less than a month to go until Oct. 5, 2023, the day we will touch on Ubisoft’s new work: will Assassin’s Creed Mirage really be a game changer for the series? To posterity the harsh judgment.
Forza Motorsport – 10th October 2023
October seems to be the best month among those that make up this 2023 four-month period so much so that, as you will discover as you continue reading this special, video games coming out are wasted. Forza Motorsport, coming October 10th on Xbox, PC and at day one on Xbox Game Pass is no less: after the huge success of Forza Horizon 5, Xbox Game Studios is hoping for an encore performance.

Racing game fans are warned: Forza Motorsport will feature more than a hundred cars, more realistic graphics than ever before and a gameplay that aims to set a new standard of excellence for racing games.
Lords of The Fallen – 13th October 2023
I was in doubt until the last whether to include it in this ranking or not, and in the end I decided to add it: Lords of The Fallen, the upcoming soulslike that will land on Xbox, Playstation and PC on October 13th 2023, definitely deserves our attention.
Whether for a trailer with Iron Maiden’s Fear of The Dark in the background that kicks ass or for possibility of exploring two worldsthe world of the living and the world of the dead, Lords of The Fallen looks to me like a title with the makings of one of the surprises of this 2023.
Marvel Spider-Man 2 – 20th October 2023
There is little to say about Marvel Spider-Man 2: Peter Parker, Miles Morales and Venom, all three in one game. If you enjoyed the first installment of the Playstation exclusive dedicated to the most famous Marvel superhero of them all, then you’ll also swoop in with your eyes closed on the new installment of the saga developed by Insomniac.

I, on the other hand, sincerely hope that the open world of Spider-Man 2 succeeds in smoothing out the problems of the previous game, favoring more quality in the side quests and fewer “retrieve all the backpacks scattered around Manhattan” type activities. Appointment of Marvel Spider-Man 2 to October 20, 2023.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – 20th October 2023
On the same day as the release of Spider-Man 2, we find Super Mario Bros. Wonder, the new Nintendo Switch exclusive, coming October 20, 2023, starring the world’s most famous plumber.

A horizontally scrolling two-dimensional platformer as well as an homage to the very first works of the saga: Nintendo has not released a game of this kind since 2012, when New Super Mario Bros. U. A dive into dormant memories, those of afternoons spent with eyes fixed on the Gameboy’s small screen, with a gameplay that will try to combine tradition and modernity.
Alan Wake 2 – 27th October 2023
The award for most anticipated video game of this last quarter of 2023, with good grace to Spider-Man 2, goes to Alan Wake 2, the new game from Remedy Entertainment as well as a sequel to the first Alan Wake. The planned release date for Alan Wake 2 is October 27th 2023, and we hope with all our hearts that there will be no further postponements after the one a few weeks ago (the release was initially set for 17th October 2023).

You can breathe in a lot of True Detective vibes with a story that promises to be quite dark with horror and psychological atmospheres. A big news in Alan Wake 2 will then be the presence of two distinct protagonists: Alan Wake, already the main character of the first chapter, and the new entry, FBI agent Saga Anderson. The narrative framework, therefore, seems quite solid. On the purely ludic front, however, we hope that the gameplay and shooting will prove up to par. Otherwise, it will be my best Halloween in a few years.
Persona 5 Tactica – 17th November 2023
I had to choose a video game between Persona 5 Tactica, Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and Super Mario RPG coming out in November. In the end, I opted for the strategic RPG spin-off of Persona 5 developed by Atlus and P Studio.

Persona 5 Tactica is coming to PC and all consoles and also on day one on Xbox Game Pass. Following the arrival of the main Persona saga on Microsoft’s subscription service, on the 17th of November will be the turn of this hybrid as well as big news for the Persona series.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – 7th December 2023
The last video game on the list that, barring postponements by Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment, is expected to be released in the latter part of the 2023 quarter, specifically on the 7h of December, is the long-awaited Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

We are talking about a first-person action-adventure inspired by James Cameron’s saga: the gameplay promises to mix exploration and combat on the ground and in the air, in an attempt to cross the “western frontier” of Pandora, an entirely unseen area of the planet. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, at the moment, is the only December title for which we have a firm release date.
