Resident Evil 4: Chainsaw Demo tested and memories of a lifetime ago

Last Saturday I tried the chainsaw Demo of Resident Evil 4 Remake, the new Capcom title, and there is little to say, it kicks ass!

Forastero! Resident Evil 4 Remake is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games of the year. The remake of Capcom’s long-running 2005 title is set to make its market debut on March 24, 2023.

On the occasion of the game’s release, the publisher made available a small demo(Resident Evil 4 Remake: Chainsaw Demo) of fifteen to twenty minutes, which I immediately tried in the wake of that hype train that, at the moment, seems unstoppable.

Resident Evil 4 Remake: the demo of memories

Ready, set off. I start the game and it feels like we have really gone back to eighteen years ago or sixteen years ago, depending on whether you played it on Gamecube or, like the writer, on Playstation 2.

That time, having started the game, I was together with my younger cousin who admired Leon ‘s exploits and my cursing whenever I had to protect Ashley Graham, the daughter of the president of the United States of America. Today, however, it is the turn of another cousin of mine, older than me, who from his comfortable couch watches my movements vigilantly, attentively, sometimes even teasing me as I try to survive in the village populated by the Los Ganados, crazy peasants with pitchforks and axes, ready to do anything to skin me alive, crucify me in the center of the village and then set me on fire dancing to the rhythm of my screams of pain.

I have a goldfish memory, so let alone remember anything from the first Resident Evil 4. I notice one thing right away, however: the laser sight has completely disappeared in favor of gunplay identical to that of Resident Evil 2 Remake. To make it very simple, if you’re shooting and you want to have a clean line of sight, it’s good to stay still because the crosshairs widen and narrow if you’re moving.

Other cool thing: you can tell right away in the demo how Resident Evil 4 Remake is a much more action game than the previous titles in the series. Each time your projectile hits the enemy’s head, snap forward, toward him, to give him a good Chuck Norris kick that will knock him out. At this point, use the knife to wound him – beware that the weapon wears out with use – and after a few lunges, our friend Ganado will reach Peasant Heaven and you will not have wasted precious bullets.

The arrival in the village

Highlight moment of the demo: I arrive at the village where the body of a poor policeman is burning, and all our nice friends–there must have been at least 20 of them–start playing acchipparella with me as if I were in school. I try to run more than them, so much so, thank the Lord, there is no stamina, and every time someone tries to cut me off, head shot and on we go.

I reach the village tower, climb the ladder and decide to wait for them at the top, creating a funnel like the three hundred Spartans in the Battle of Thermopylae.“Now I’m going to bugger them,” I thought, “like I could do in the old RE4.” Wrong. The floor collapses and I find myself in an orgy of angry farmers from which it is good to run away, however.

Resident Evil 4 Demo

He appears, after a short cutscene, the guy with the chainsaw, ready to cut me in two, and while I try to curb his pleasure in dismemberments, between stun grenades and explosives, I go inside a house to retrieve the shotgun. I create a Helm’s Deep-type fort hoping to hear the bell ringing that signals the end of recreation.

All wrong. The dear cultivators begin to come in through the windows, break through my defenses, and so I throw myself outside, climb onto the rooftops, and just when I begin to think that the end has come for me, there is finally that sound that calls all Los Ganados to attention.

But where are they going? Bingo?

It closes, with the epic quote, the Resident Evil 4 Remake demo and the only thing that came to mind at that moment was: how many days until release?
