After the success of “Best shooter games available on Xbox Game Pass” (In case you missed it, here you will find the complete list), it is the turn of those belonging to another genre that has been climbing more and more in user preferences in recent years: roguelike and roguelite video games.. The loop of death and rebirth required to complete the work seems to be really loved by gamers – often I wonder why – and, for subscribers to Microsoft’s digital catalog, there is no shortage of offerings.
Before reading on, however, a note is necessary: within this list, unfortunately, you will not find Hades, the beautiful roguelike developed by Supergiant Games that had made its appearance on Xbox Game Pass on August 13, 2021. The title was removed only a year later. This is not to say that there are not still titles worthy of the best attention; on the contrary, there are at least a couple of must-have gems. Let’s cut to the chase, it’s time to begin.
About Gunfire Reborn, the first-person roguelite shooter developed by Chinese studio Duoyi Games, I had also talked about it in another of our specials in which I listed the best cooperative games on the Xbox Game Pass. Gunfire Reborn is a fps that in single play manages to be quite entertaining but that in the company of one or more friends, unleashes its full potential.
Harness your rifle and set off on a long odyssey that will call you across deserts and underwater worlds amid boss fights and particularly tough minor enemies. There is no clear-cut storyline which is why, if played solo, it may soon become repetitive: you will write the pages of Gunfire Reborn’s narrative between screams of joy or frustration at yet another defeat suffered along with your partner in headphones.
Here it is, I’ll drop the bomb right away. One of the most played titles in 2022 and designed by an Italian guy who has smashed record after record of users around the world. If you haven’t tried it yet, be very careful: Vampire Survivors may be addictive and never let you leave your chair again.
With its “very Italian” quotes, unknown to the whole world except our peninsula, Luca Galante’s video game also won the Breakthrough Awards at the Golden Joystick Awards 2022. Just in the past few weeks, DLC has been released that goes to enrich this mortared little game even more.
Inkulinati is the two-dimensional turn-based strategy with roguelike overtones from small Polish studio Yaza Games that made its early access debut on Jan. 31, 2023 on Xbox, Pc, and at day one for Game Pass subscribers. The title takes its inspiration from the miniatures found on medieval manuscripts (Marginalia), which here come to life, thanks to the goose feather moved with gracefulness by the skilled hands of the Inkulinati Masters, in clashes to the death where the master who manages to survive wins.
Challenge Dante Alighieri that will summon the world upon you, and in case you are defeated during your ascent to become the King of the Inkulinate Masters, you will have to start all over again from the beginning. Fortunately, the difficulty level can be modified to suit each gamer’s needs.
Russian studio Four Quarters has joined forces with publisher Devolver Digital to make this very unique roguelite that also mixes RPG and Deck Building components. Loop Hero arrived on Game Pass last April along with Ghostwire Tokyo.
The Lich has thrown the world and its inhabitants into a chaotic endless loop. Our hero will have to take advantage of an ever-expanding deck of mystic cards to place enemies, buildings and terrain along each unique shipping cycle. Easier to play than to write.
Dulcis in fundo, Dead Cells the roguelike with metroidvania components splendid to look at – thanks to sumptuous pixel art – and infamous to play given the daunting difficulty of the enemies to be faced. The video game developed by French studio Motion Twin was released in 2018 and won the hearts of audiences and critics alike. In fact, in the same year, it won the best action game award at The Game Awards.
Like Vampire Survivors, Dead Cells also saw just this months (March 6, 2023) the release of a DLC, Return To Castlevania. The additional content introduces the unforgettable characters and gothic settings of Castlevania. Are you ready to face bloodthirsty vampires?
